Suffragan Bishop Dr. Joe R. Williams, Sr.

Dr. Joe R. Williams, Sr., was born on June 10, 1957, in Vance, Mississippi to Andrew and Doris Williams. He grew up in Clarksdale, Mississippi along with his two sisters and six brothers.
Upon completing junior college, Dr. Williams joined the United States Army where he served for nineteen years and retired under the early retirement plan.
On May 8, 1977, Dr. Williams was joined in holy matrimony to the lovely Treddie J. Coleman.
Dr. and First Lady Williams are the parents of six children and are also blessed to have fourteen grandchildren.
During his time in service, Dr. Williams and family were stationed in Ft. Dix, New Jersey; Ft. Lee, Virginia; Baumholder, West Germany; Ft. Jackson, South Carolina; Ft. Hood, Texas; Ft. Sill, Oklahoma; Indianapolis, Indiana; Stuttgart, West Germany; and AFCENT, the Netherlands.
It was during his tenure at Ft. Hood, Texas that Dr. Williams came into the knowledge of the Apostolic truth. At United Pentecostal Church of Killeen, Texas both he and First Lady Williams were filled with the Holy Ghost and baptized in Jesus' Name. Upon his conversion, Dr. Williams remained faithful to the gospel.
While serving in Stuttgart, Germany in 1986, Suffragan Bishop Williams received his ministerial license from the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ (COOLJC). In 1988, he was ordained Elder by the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. (PAW); and thereafter, he attained the office of District Elder. In October 2011, Dr. Williams was promoted to the office of Suffragan Bishop.
Upon retiring from military service, Dr. Williams made Lawton, Oklahoma his permanent home. In the Spring of 1997, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a double minor in Health and Physical Education from Cameron University; later he completed his Master of Arts degree in Biblical Studies at American Bible College Seminary; he was awarded his Doctorate of Ministry degree in the Summer of 2005.
Dr. Williams is the author of "The Impact of the Holy Spirit on Mortal Man" (for which the International Christian Education Association of the PAW, Inc. awarded him the 2016 Aida Ford Scholar Award); "The Holy Ghost is your One-Way Ticket to Heaven"; "Just Be Happy and Enjoy Life"; and "Understanding God’s Pastors." Together, Dr. Williams and First Lady Williams co-authored "Love is Keeping Us Together."
Dr. Williams has always taken an interest in the lives of his children and other youth. While stationed in the Netherlands, he coached little league basketball for the International Youth Services—his team became the 1993 International Champs; he also coached a little league basketball team in Lawton, Oklahoma. For a number of years, Dr. Williams was also a certified basketball referee for the state of Oklahoma. Dr. Williams was briefly employed as a school counselor for the Lawton Public School System. Currently, he serves as an on-call chaplain for Comanche County Memorial Hospital and Southwestern Hospital.
Dr. Williams is the President of the True Love Bible Institute (an extension of the Aenon Bible College, Indianapolis, Indiana). He is also a member of the Oklahoma State Council Executive Board and has previously served as the first vice chairman, credentials/licensing board chairman, and director of the Oklahoma State Men’s Ministry Auxiliary. Dr. Williams currently serves as the Oklahoma State Council Chairman.
In recognition of Dr. Williams’ personal, religious, and community achievements, the city of Lawton, Oklahoma honored him by dedicating multiple city street blocks directly north of the church to him.
Dr. Williams has endeavored to use his life and resources as a tool in ministering to people of all ages, backgrounds, and nationalities. He is truly enjoying the movement and direction of God in his life.
